    Shipping blocks are still in the fuser. Leaving the shipping blocks in the fuser prevent the paper sensor from moving and cause the error.

  • Lift the top cover.
  • Lift the two green handles on either side of the fuser to disengage the fuser rollers.
  • Open up the fuser cover by lifting the green square tab on the right-hand side of the fuser.
  • Check for and remove any obstructions in the fuser including the two orange shipping blocks.

    49.xxxx PRINTER ERROR

    This type of error can be caused by invalid print commands, corrupt data, or invalid operations. In some cases, electrical noise in the cable can corrupt data during transmission to the printer. Other causes include poor quality parallel cables, poor connections, or general communication problems.

    1. Turn the printer off, and then turn it on again.
    2. If the 49 error returns turn the power off, unplug the power cable, disconnect all network cables, and remove the HP Jetdirect card, memory DIMMs or Flashcards, or any third-party devices (if any are installed).
    3. Wait at least 30 seconds before plugging the printer back in directly to a wall outlet. Do not plug the printer into a power strip or a surge protector.
    4. Turn the printer on. If the 49 error returns, turn the power off, and then unplug the printer.
    5. Remove the formatter board.
    6. Check that the parallel I/O board is firmly installed on the formatter board.
    7. Check for any non-HP memory DIMMs. If any extra memory is installed, remove it.
    8. Reconnect the power cord, and turn on the power.
    9. If the 49 error returns, perform a cold reset.
      1. Turn on the printer.
      2. Watch the control panel.
      3. When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green (Select) button.
      4. Continue holding the green (Select) button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.

      50.1 A low fuser temperature error has occurred, possibly due to an inadequate external or internal power supply.

      50.4 A faulty fuser error has occurred. There may be a problem with the printer's fuser, or inadequate external or internal power supply/line voltage.

      1. Turn the printer off, and turn it on again.
      2. Remove the surge protector or Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and connect the printer directly to a power source.
      3. Try a different power cord.
      4. Try a different electrical circuit or outlet.
      5. Inspect the fuser for media or damage, and reseat the fuser.
        1. Open the top cover.
        2. Locate the green square tab on the right of the fuser flap and lift it to inspect the fuser roller for media or damage.
        3. Unscrew two blue knobs located on each side above the control panel.
        4. Lift the fuser by grasping the fuser housing above the green arrow on the left and right.
        5. Reinstall the fuser.
      6. Perform a cold reset on the printer.
        1. Turn on the printer.
        2. Watch the control panel.
        3. When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green (Select) button.
        4. Continue holding the green check button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.

    A DIMM is installed in both 168-pin DIMM Slot J4 (as labeled on the formatter board) and 100-pin DIMM Slot J5 (as labeled on the formatter board). This is an invalid configuration. DIMMs cannot be installed in both of these slots at the same time.

    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Remove one of the DIMMs, or move one of the DIMMs to a different slot.
    3. Turn the printer back on again.

  • Before initializing NVRAM, print a Configuration page and a supplies status page to gather the following information:
    1. Total page count and color page count
    2. Transfer kit count
    3. Fuser kit count
    4. Serial Number
  • To initialize NVRAM do the following:
    1. Turn the printer on and watch the control panel display.
    2. When the display begins showing the memory count, press and hold (Down Arrow) until all three lights on the control panel are lit.
    3. Press (Up Arrow).
    4. Press PAUSE/RESUME . The display should show SKIP DISK LOAD .
    5. Press (Up Arrow) until NVRAM INIT is highlighted.
    6. Press (Select). The printer will initialize NVRAM and then continue its power-on sequence.

    68.1 PERMANENT STORAGE FULL FOR HELP PRESS ? alternates with TO CONTINUE PRESS

    The flash DIMM or hard disk storage device is full.

    79 PRINTER ERROR TO CONTINUE TURN PRINTER OFF THEN TURN ON

    A critical error has occurred. This error could be the result of a hardware failure, or there could be a problem with communication or corrupt data. Each of the following steps is intended to determine whether the 79 error displayed on the printer is the result of a hardware failure. To ensure the tests are valid, turn the printer off and on between steps to determine if the error message has been cleared.

    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Disconnect the printer from the PC and/or the network.
    3. Power on the printer. If the error message does not reappear after disconnecting from the PC/network, yet reappears once it is re-connected, verify that the print queue on the PC/server has been cleared of all pending jobs.
    4. Power off the printer and unplug the power cord before proceeding with the following steps. Take the formatter board out of the printer and then reseat the various DIMMS or EIO cards.
      1. Reseat the formatter back into the printer.
      2. Plug the power cord back into the wall.
      3. Power on the printer.
    5. If the error returns, power off the printer.
      1. Remove all accessories that have been installed on the printer (for example, EIO Cards, RAM/ROM DIMMS). If the 79 error disappears after removing all the accessories, start adding the accessories back one at a time to isolate which one is causing the issue.
    6. Cold reset the printer.
      1. Turn on the printer.
      2. Watch the control panel.
      3. When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green (Select) button.
      4. Continue holding the green check button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.
      5. Release the check button when the Ready, Data, and Attention light are on steady.
      6. The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE .
      7. Press (Down Arrow) button once. The control panel will display COLD RESET
      8. Press (Select). The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence.

    80 ERROR

    If the printer is exhibiting an 80 error, please try the following steps to resolve this issue. The 80 error indicates that the Color LaserJet 4600 series printer is experiencing a problem with either the printer's network card or the network connection to the printer.

    The following steps to should resolve the error:

    1. Turn the printer off and back on again. If this does not clear the error, perform the following steps.
    2. Turn off the printer.
    3. Locate the Jetdirect network card near the rear of the printer's right-hand side.
    4. Unscrew the two screws retaining the card in the printer.
    5. Remove and reseat the card into the printer and tighten the screws.
    6. Turn the printer back on and check for errors.
    7. If the 80 service error continues, remove and reinstall the Jetdirect card, installing the card in the other EIO slot provided in the printer.

    81 EIO ERROR

    The EIO accessory card in EIO Slot 1 has encountered a critical error.

    1. Turn off the printer.
    2. Reseat the EIO card.
    3. Turn on the printer again.
    4. If the error persists, remove the card from Slot 1, and install it in Slot 2.
    5. Cold reset the printer.
      1. Turn on the printer.
      2. Watch the control panel.
      3. When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green (Select) button.
      4. Continue holding the green check button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.
      5. Release the check button when the Ready, Data, and Attention light are on steady.
      6. The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE .
      7. Press (Down Arrow) button once. The control panel will display COLD RESET
      8. Press (Select). The printer will perform a cold reset and then continue its power-on sequence.

    82 EIO ERROR

    The EIO accessory card in EIO Slot 2 has encountered a critical error.

    1. Turn off the printer and then turn it back on again.
    2. Reseat the EIO card.
    3. If the error persists, remove the card from Slot 2, and install it in Slot 1.
    4. Cold reset the printer.
      1. Turn on the printer.
      2. Watch the control panel.
      3. When the memory starts counting, press and hold the green (Select) button.
      4. Continue holding the green check button until the Ready, Data, and Attention lights flash once, and then stay on steady.
      5. Release the check button when the Ready, Data, and Attention light are on steady.
      6. The control panel will display SELECT LANGUAGE .
      7. Press (Down Arrow) button once. The control panel will display COLD RESET
